From within the shadows of the Icefall Cave came a ebonite he-wolf. His indigo eyes were emotionless but had a dark glint in them as he stalked out onto the bank of the Nne Island. The scent of rich pine trees filled his nostrils, making him sneeze. Summer was very welcome to most wolves, who absolutely loved the warmth and the rich prey. The beta male could care less, for in his opinion summer was overly hot and unpleasant, mostly because his dark pelt absorbed all of the sunlight.
Espio padded over to Hatsuyume's den, breathing in the bittersweet scent of the herbs she worked with. At first she was just some she-wolf who happened to be in his pack . . . yet know Espio knew the gentle healer as a fairly good friend. He allowed a tiny smile to creep into his expression as he slipped in, skirting a clump of chervil and looking for her.
"Hatsuyume!" In the darkness, and with the overwhelming scent of herbs, he could not find her. Although outwardly he was collected and seemingly content, inwardly he began to feel uneasiness. "Hatsuyume? Do you . . ." He swallowed. "Do you want to go on a hunt with me? We could go around the Gnipeels Forest, catch some muskrats by the stream . . . er, and you can look for herbs."

Call to the wind...
[o o c] Hmmm...do you want to play Sarita? Or maybe we can get Fox to...if not, I will...and we can just powerplay Sentii when we need him...koff... [o o c]
A dark brown form shifted in the dimly lit cave and soon a pair of sparkling silver eyes blinked around the back of the enclosure. A beautiful wolfess with a rich mahogany pelt padded into view, nearing the melanistic brute. She smiled at him, scenting faintly of chamomile, and eyes twinkling as always. She dipped her cranium slightly to respect him as the pack beta, but not too much to show she thought him a close friend. Grinning slightly, she nodded, depositing the marigold she held in her mouth next to the chervil.
"Yes, I'd like that Espio," She said, her voice soft but clear as it always was. She had the odd power of capturing one's attention by little or no means. Nodding cheerfully, she gave her shoulder a brisk lick, sniffing. "Dear Lupus, I do smell like all this, don't I?" She laughed, her voice deep and wise. Shaking herself a bit, she tilted her head, pale grey oculars observing him warmly.
She looked around the Shaman's Den, checking to see that everything was neat and in order. Pausing, she scented the air again, sensing something a little out of place. "Good...I think Sarita said that there were some Bitterweed over in that area...Arashi caught herself a chill." She said, sounding a bit amused. Then, thinking about the pups, she wondered if they were giving Sentii much grief. The mocha healer turned and regarded her friend again, meeting his indigo gaze with her own silver one.
...and I will be there...

Breathing in the shaman's sweet scent, the dark brute became partly lost in the aroma of herbs and flowers. However, he shook himself quickly to get rid of the odd sensation, and chuckled softly. Hatsuyume was becoming as close a friend to him as Tetesi was. His indigo eyes narrowed suddenly as he remembered the day . . . the day that Tetesi came back from the Gathering, missing half of her face and an eye. Yukiko and Arashi were so afraid at first that they sought protection in the den, not wanting their mother to come in. Luckily, however, they realized that their parent was injured and wanted to know if she was alright. Espio's heart nearly broke when he saw her single, weary eye. It still seemed as if he was missing a chunk of his soul.
Yume was continuing to speak, saying something about bitterweed. He blinked for a moment, face blank and bemused. "Sarita . . . ? Oh, yes, of course." He nodded with a smile that quickly faded from his lips. Sarita . . . the tough arctic femme who was his mate. Lately he had sensed her growing distant from him again, and it seemed that she wasn't there. He was beginning to wonder if the bond between them was really true love.
Shaking his head, Espio laughed softly at the thought of the whelps torturing the also-distant he-wolf, Sentii. All that idiot does is sit on his fat ass and complain about prissy alphas, he thought angrily. I hate that ungrateful brute almost as much as Taka! He hid the raging flame in his deep navy eyes and bowed to his friend. "Ladies first," he growled, gesturing for her to go ahead. He hoped that she hadn't sensed his faint distress with the confusion about Sarita and his anger toward Yume's half-brother, but he learned from experiance that Hatsuyume could tell almost anything.

Choosing to ignore her friend's empty expression as she often learned to do with Espio, the she-wolf gave him a half-smile of amusement and padded out of her den, turning to watch him. She sighed, soft and almost inaudible, as the summer air met her face. She took a deep breath, smiling and realizing she had been in her den too long.
The chocolate she-wolf shook her head, thinking to herself. It was not so long ago that Tetesi came back with half her face torn off. She still remembered the chill the alpha female gave her when she told her and Espio to watch the pups. Her dread had soon been realized. Tetesi became half blind and Taka was in shock. Even though the silver she-wolf made an astonishing physical recovery, Hatsuyume wondered if she'll ever really be the same. It had affected the young pups the worst, she felt.
Yukiko had become very depressed and had snuck into Janichanua territory, and if Espio had not found her, might have been killed. Arashi became obsessed with battle moves and warrior training, swearing to protect all her loved ones. That battle, now known as the Battle of the Iced Leaves, affected and changed them all. She sighed now, bringing herself back into reality as she watched the melanistic hunter emerge, eyes veiling her unease at the memories.
