Sunity walked down an ancient deer path leading toward her camp. Her glossy ebony fur was shining brightly, the surplus of food had been good to her. Her amber eyes, normally bright, were practically glowing. The femme was beautiful.
The deer path continued farther into the woods, and Sunity continued her leisurely stroll. While her senses were sharp, as usual, they were not on high alert, like when she sensed danger, or was hunting. No, this walk back to the camp would be uneventful it seemed.
Getting bored, the femme's mind wandered off to various topics. Like her sister trying to overthrow the alpha of the pack. Her sister always was one for liking power, and doing crazy things to get it. Sunity liked power also, but was willing to take it in a much more sensible way. She wanted to become a healer, which is why she needed to get to camp, she needed to help the healer. She would be picking her apprentice soon and Sunity wanted to know all she could before then. That way her chances would be greater.
Speaking of chances, Sunity had only one other femme to compete with for apprentice. His name was Shanu, and he would probably be in camp, trying to convince the healer to take him instead of her, as she usually did, on her daily walks.
On the daily walks Sunity and the healer collected herbs and other medicines for the healer's storage. Sunity learned much on these walks and was ecstatic every time she was allowed to participate in one.
Sunity picked up her pace, rounding corners wildly, while still silently, she heard birds fly from their perches and rabbits hop to their dens. Wherever the femme went the forest suddenly became a flurry of movement, as animals of all kinds ran back to their homes, trying to escape the whirlwind that was Sunity. Rounding the last corner Sunity picked up her pace, and skidded to a halt right in front of the healer herself.
The healer had ebony fur, like Sunity's, but hers was streaked with gray. Her yellow eyes looked worn yet knowing, striking fear in pups, who thought the old wolf knew their secrets. The entire pack respected her, and the respect was well deserved. For years she had toiled behind the old healer while he went about his rounds, as his apprentice. She had learned much then, and a great deal more after becoming healer.
The ancient femme looked down when Sunity slammed to a halt in front of her, and with kindness in her heart and her eyes showing it she said, "I thought you would never get here"
So Sunity walked back out of the clearing, and into the woods with the healer. Shanu walked into the clearing the camp was set in just in time to see that, once again, the healer had taken Sunity on her daily walk.
